Vermont DGA Pasture Walk | Corse Farm, Whitingham, VT

The Corse Farm (use written directions below, NOT GPS)

The Corse Family has grazed cows on this farm for over 150
years. At an elevation of 2000 ft the grazing season starts
later than many farms in southern Vermont. The farm is
certifi ed organic and uses managed intensive grazing to
provide the bulk of their milk cows forage from the middle

of May through October and the heifers’ until late in No-
vember. Leon is a master grazer with Dairy Grazing Appren-
ticeship and will graduate his second apprentice, MaKenzie,

this coming September.
Leon, MacKenzie and Leon’s daughter, Abbie, will explain

how they transition to grass in the spring and how they sup-
plement the grass ration to get good production from their

60 milking cows. An Afi -Milk computer monitoring system
is used to help fi nd cows in heat. Leon has developed an
interesting system to put up haylage in ag bags and some
as baleage. All of their grassland is in permanent sod.

west [Exit 2] [17 + miles], right onto Route 100

south [3.5 miles], fi rst blacktop right, Wilm-
ington Cross Road [0.6 miles], fi rst blacktop

right Fuller Hill Road [0.6miles], Bear left at
intersection onto Corse Road.
From Bennington, VT take Route 9 east, then
follow directions above
From I-91 in Greenfi eld MA take Route

2 west [Exit 26] [3.5 miles] right onto Col-
rain-Shelburne Road [5.5 miles], Route 112

north [12.5 miles],route 100 north in Jack-
sonville, VT, [at the end of 112] [2miles], 2nd

blacktop left onto Wilmington Cross Road
[0.6 miles], fi rst blacktop right Fuller Hill Road
[0.6miles], Bear left at intersection onto Corse
Road.
From North Adams, MA take Route 8 north,
which becomes Route 100 in VT. Follow
through Whitingham, after you pass a large
cemetery [on your right] take the next left
[Corse Road] to farm.
